About the Couple

Shawna grew up in DeForest, while Michael grew up near Appleton. Their story started thanks to a little help from a good friend.

After college, Michael started a job in DeForest with one of Shawna’s good friends. One night while they were talking, Shawna’s name came up. Intrigued, Michael asked her friend to put in a good word for him the next time she saw Shawna. As it turns out, she put in a very good word!

The two briefly met in person at a classic DeForest local establishment before continuing their first real date over dinner at the Nitty Gritty in Sun Prairie. From there, the conversations kept going and they have been inseparable ever since.

The Engagement

In May 2024, Michael planned a surprise weekend getaway to Colorado, but Shawna had no idea just how special the trip would become.

While exploring the breathtaking Rocky Mountain National Park, the two made their way to Dream Lake. With the mountains surrounding them and the perfect moment in front of him, Michael got down on one knee and asked Shawna to spend forever with him.

Shawna said yes!

The rest of the weekend was spent exploring Colorado, celebrating their engagement, and soaking in the excitement of what was to come. A beautiful adventure that became the beginning of their next chapter together.

The Big Day

The theme that Shawna and Michael were looking for was rustic, floral, bright, and completely personal. Shawna and Michael knew they had found the right place when they toured The Hay Loft Barn.

After visiting several venues, they fell in love with the rustic yet well-kept look of The Hay Loft and all the options it offered. They also appreciated how helpful and knowledgeable Tim and his family were throughout the planning process.
